Castings will also generate internal stress during welding repairs. Therefore, the repaired castings should also be treated to eliminate internal stress.

The most commonly used casting methods to eliminate internal stress are natural aging and artificial aging. Natural aging is to place the castings steadily on the open ground, generally for 6-18 months, preferably through summer and winter. Large iron castings, such as bed, frame, etc. generally use this aging method. The effect of natural aging to stabilize the size of castings is better than artificial aging, but the cycle is longer. Therefore, small and medium castings, even large castings, usually use artificial aging methods to eliminate internal stress. Artificial aging usually refers to the internal stress elimination and tempering of the casting, that is, the casting is heated to the plastic deformation temperature range for a period of time, so that the temperature of each part of the casting is uniformized, thereby releasing the internal stress of the casting, making the casting size stable, and then making the casting The inside of the furnace is slowly cooled to the elastic deformation temperature range and then air-cooled out of the furnace. In addition, as a new process to eliminate the internal stress of castings, vibration aging has received more and more attention due to its low energy consumption and processing cost, and its remarkable effects in eliminating internal stress and ensuring the dimensional stability of castings.
